Congratulations to Marlene Watts & Tim Cregan for winning this event.
The runners up were Bina Kassam & Joseph So in 2nd place, Margaret Gidley-Baird & Charles Klassen in 3rd & Mary Atkinson & Peter Campbell in 4th.
This was a keenly contested competition with only .26% difference between 1st & 4th place!
Well done to all participants for making this a successful event. Many thanks, also, to our director, Brian Soutter.

VALE Michael Stacey

It is with great sadness that we inform Club members of the passing of Michael Stacey on Wednesday last week.
Michael endured, with great spirit & good humour, a difficult & prolonged period of illness over the last few years. He was a true gentleman who, at all times, maintained an incredibly positive attitude & approach to life.
Michael joined the Club four years ago & with his usual partner, Iain Clarke, and sometimes with Di, was a keen & regular Monday & Wednesday player who thoroughly enjoyed the challenge that bridge provided. In 2015, along with Iain, he was a member of the winning Novice Team at the Hunters Hill Bridge Congress.

State Open Teams- Tuesdays 4,11 & 18 July Entries Close 30 June
Deb Bennett Under 50MP Pairs- Mondays 10,17 & 24 July Walk In Event
Carolyn Molloy Pairs- Wednesdays 19, 26 July & 2 August Walk in Event

For full details concerning these events, please see attachment.

David Beauchamp will be back on Wednesday, 28 June at 10am with "Strong & Forcing Opening Bids". David will discuss the evaluation of strong hands & when to open at the 1 level as opposed to opening with a game force. He will also include responses to game force opening bids.

Joan Butts, the ABF National Teaching Co-ordinator, will be conducting a full day workshop at our premises in Henley on Tuesday, 11 July from 10am-2.30pm. The workshop will comprise 2 sessions, morning & afternoon, on "Improving Your Judgement in Bidding" & "Keeping Communications Open in Defence". The cost is $50 for members & $55 for non members, with lunch included. Booking is essential for this workshop as Joan provides detailed notes.

The Committee has determined that, commencing 3 July 2017, table money payable at each session will be:
Members $10
Members (concessions) $6
Visitors $12
Since session fees were last increased on 1 May 2012, the Club's expenses for items such as rent, directors' fees, maintenance & replacement of equipment, masterpoint & competition fees, stationery, catering & ancillary items have risen substantially.
It has, therefore, become necessary for the Committee to increase session fees to cover this additional expenditure.

The GNOTs will be played on Wednesdays 14, 21 & 28 June.
Some members seem to be concerned that there will be no side game.
Please be advised, therefore, that THERE WILL BE A SIDE GAME on each of these three Wednesdays. Although we can't guarantee that the side games will be large, duplicate bridge will definitely be available to anyone who wants to play on any of these days.

We are currently experiencing some problems with parking at the back of the building.
Would members kindly note that there should be no parking immediately at the back of the building & that parking there runs the risk of blocking others in.
Please park only in designated parking spaces.
