What do you bid?
It was Match 9 Board 14 in the SWPT.
The full hand was

We were NS and the bidding went
| South | West | North | East |
|---|---|---|---|
| - | - | - | 2![]() |
| Pass | 2![]() | Pass | 4![]() |
| Pass | 6![]() |
The 2
bid was the dreaded multi showing a weak 2 in a major or 21-22 points balanced. 2
was Pass or Correct and East decided he didn't want to miss out on game so he bid 4
. West pondered this for some time and decided that partner must have the big hand so he bid 6
. This was not a success as three aces were missing.
What opening bid should East have made?
In my opinion the hand is too weak for a one level opening but far too strong for a weak two. I believe the correct opening bid is 4
.
