Last Sunday Kay and I played with Marie and Colin Hucker in the Southern Highlands Congress Teams in Bowral. It was a very pleasant, well-organised congress and only a 90 minute drive from Sydney. Geraldine Phillips also played in the Teams.
Here is Board 1 from Match 4:
The bidding was quite energetic. Kay was East and I was West.
| South | West | North | East |
|---|
| - | - | 2NT | 3 |
|
4 | 4 | 5 | 5 |
|
The 2NT opening showed 5/5 in the minors. This is normally played as less than an opening hand, in which case this hand is too strong. It should be opened 1 Diamond.
West lead the Spade King and Kay surveyed dummy, not liking her prospects. There are many losers. She ducked the opening lead and South switched to a Diamond. North won with the King and attempted to cash the Ace. Kay trumped this and drew trumps ending in her hand. Then she finessed the Spade Jack, cashed the Ace dropping the remaining Spades and discarded her Clubs on the long spades. Making 11 tricks!
